how much ATP is generated when threonine is catabolized in the three catabolic pathways into the TCA cycle?
Solution
threonine is converted into pyruvate and thus enter into TCA cycle.
Threonine is converted into 2-amino-3-ketobutyrate which in turn converted into Pyruvate.
This pyruvate form Acetyl Co-A which make entry into TCA cycle
during the formation of Acetyl Co-A from pyruvate one NADP is generated.
During the complete oxidation of Acetyl Co-A 3 NADH, 1 FADH and 1 ATP is generated.
NADH give 2.5 ATP and FADH give 1.5 ATP so the total ATP will be 10+1+1.5 = 12.5 ATP
