Though I feel that each one of these can be a source of stress, the most destructive source of interpersonal conflict would have to be environmentally induced stress. Within a stressful environment, personal differences and role incompatibilities are greatly exacerbated (382). Anytime there is a change in the working environment it could become a feeding ground for stress if not dealt with right away. From my experience, a big cause of conflict in the work environment can come from uncertainty (382).

At my place of employment this seems to be the case. Over the past year, we have gone through many changes in structure and upper management. One of the partners within the partnership has taken over and they seem to think they are solely in charge. The reason why this has happened is because the only organization that can stop them, hasn’t because they have problems of their own that they are dealing with. So when the old Executive Director left form this one partner and the new one came in, stress was already high which would is bound to happen anytime there is a change in leadership. The problem is what happened next.

I have worked at a couple companies in the past when there was either a new boss coming in or a change of command happening. What I have experience in the past would be what I would consider “normal” if the new boss wanted to try and lessen employees tensions and that is to meet with departments and employees and let them know what they can expect. By doing so, employees aren’t left in the dark any longer. They are included. However, where I am, the new executive director did meet with us, but since that first meeting, he has not done one thing he has said he would and some of the employees have even caught him a lie, me included. Changes are constantly happening and our school was never even broken.

Here is one example that illustrates my point. My boss, Betty, and I have always made it a point to have contracts for the upcoming/next school year available and ready to be signed by teachers in April or May of the current school year. Besides the fact that this is the professional way to do it, it eases the stress of the teacher knowing if they will have a job in the fall so they can enjoy their much needed summer vacation. For our current school year, not only did the new director not have contracts available for them to sign in April or May 2015, they still have never received contacts for the current year they are in. There was a meeting at the beginning of the school year letting them all know their pay was being cut (which is a whole other issue), but there have never been any contracts for them to sign. This type of issue is only the tip of the ice berg when it comes to the environmentally induced stresses we feel at my school.

Due to the lack of verbalization on his part, the majority of our teachers, associates, and staff do not want to come back next school year. It is one thing to keep your staff in the dark on some topics until decisions are made, but the not do anything you said you would do nor keep your teachers and staff informed is not only disrespectful, but unprofessional.

The basic reason behind the contracts not being signed up by the teachers is the autocratic leadership of the new boss. His objective of the work is to cut down costs as much as possible and take the complete command of the system to make employees work as he likes them to work. This makes the system less conducive to absorb good thoughtsand thus make it to fall off because of its own inefficiencies.
