f(x) = x^2 + 4

a) -2 to 0

avearage rate of change is f(0) - f(-2) / (0 - -2 )

f(0) = 4 , f(-2) = 8

4-8 / 2 = - 2

average rate of change from -2 to 0 is -2

b) from 3 to 5

f(3) = 13

f(5) = 29

f(5) - f(3) / (5-3 ) = 8

avearge rate of change from 3 to 5 is 8

c) from -2 to 1

f(-2) = 8

f(1) = 5

average rate of change = 5 - 8 / 3 = -1
