The mechanism below has the velocity at point B vB is given

The mechanism below has the velocity at point B, v_B, is given by the vector shown with the magnitude of 20 m/sec. Noted that the velocity at C (v_C) and the relative velocity of the link BC (v_B/c) are perpendicular to the links CD and BC respectively. Determine v_C knowing v_B = v_C + v_B/C.

Solution

So we have given that,

Velocity at point B, Vb= 20 m/s

Velocity at point C, Vc is perpendicular link CD,

Velocity at point BC, Vb/c is perpendicular to the link BC

So we have given that

Vb=   Vc + Vb/c

The relative velocity of BC, Vb/c= Vc-Vb

putting this value in above equation, we get

Vb=   Vc + Vc-Vb

So we get

2Vb=2Vc

Ans The velocity at Vector B will be Vb= 20 m/s
