What are SMART goals:

SMART goal are those which are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely.

Specific: If a goal is not specific, it is not a goal, it will just be a mere statement. We should always write down exactly what we want, why we want it, and how to get there. Answering these basic questions will give us answer for being specific in our goal setting.

Measurable: Any progress made towards achieving the goal should be tracked. If the progress is not tracked then we might go off track. Hence, If we need to stay on track toward our goal instead of veering off course and risking disappointment and failure, specific criteria should be established for measuring and tracking each and every progress.

Attainable: The factor of being attainable differs from individual to individual. What might look like achievable for one individual might not be achievable for other individual. Hence, the challenge here will be to develop the attitudes, skills and abilities, along with the financial capacity, to reach our goals.

Realistic: According to the smart goal system a realistic goal means a doable goal. The goal should fit in with the overall vision of the company and should not be something completely unrealistic. Hence we should be very careful while setting goals in order to avoid failure by setting up unrealistic goal.

Timely: As individuals we have a tendency to procrastinate, hence we should always set in a clear timeframe or deadline for achieving short term and long term goal. If there isno urgeny then we might try to concentrate on other things that are less important.

Hence, while setting a goal it is important to see if it fits in all the above criteria.

Short Term Goal with Respect to SMART for being a lifelong professional:

A goal is a desired result that is achieved by achieving specific objectives.

Short term goal for being professional can be stated as follows:

\" My goal as a professional will be to be ethical and morally grounded in all situations and scenari\". Though this should be a long term goal of any professional, it is practically not possible. In some situations a professional will bo forced to taka a decision between being personal satisfied than being ethical.

Take for instance doctors spend so much for completing a graduation and consequently specilization. If they need to act ethically then they should actual charge a nominal fee but as against the ethical grounds they charge high. In these situations they are not professional.

So this goal should be set as a short term goal and in-turn be converted as long term goal. This will make a person a lifelong professional.

There should be certain necessary conditions and objectives set in order to achive this goal. They are as follows:

2. Customer fulfillment should be achieved

3. Moral Responsibility should be shouldered by self.
