A conducting rod of 20-cm in length is gliding on the parallel rails of sideway generator with a speed of 3.0 m/s in a region where the magnetic field is 60 µT directed perpendicular to the plane of the loop. What is the magnitude of the electromotive force generated in the loop?
Solution
Here, v = 3.0 m/s
B = 60x10^-6 T
L = 20 cm = 0.20 m
Now, the motional emf, E = B*L*v = 60x10^-6x0.20x3.0 = 36x10^-6 V
Again, the motional electromotive force, F = q*E
Where, q is the charge on the conductor.
In the problem, q ( charge of the conductor) is not given.
So, the answer is simply, F = q*36x10^-6 N
Where, q is the charge of the conducting rod.
