A 66 g ice cube can slide without friction up and down a 25

A 66 g ice cube can slide without friction up and down a 25 slope. The ice cube is pressed against a spring at the bottom of the slope, compressing the spring 12 cm . The spring constant is 26 N/m . When the ice cube is released, what distance will it travel up the slope before reversing direction?

Solution

here,

m = 66 gm = 0.066 Kg

theta = 25 degree

x = 12 cm = 0.12 m

spring constant , k = 26 N/m

let the distance travelled up the incline is d

Using conservation of energy

0.5 * k * x^2 = m * g * d * sin(theta)

0.5 * 26 * 0.12^2 = 0.066 * 9.8 * d * sin(25)

solving for d

d = 0.648 m

the distance travelled up the incline by ice cube is 0.648 m

A 66 g ice cube can slide without friction up and down a 25 slope. The ice cube is pressed against a spring at the bottom of the slope, compressing the spring 1
