What is a Database Management System? What are the three principle components of a DBMS ? Explain the functions of each of them.

A DBMS is an integrated system of programs and data repositories which Includes facilities to following facility:
1.Define the database structure and modify the database structure
2.Construct the database on a storage medium
3.Manipulate the database: queries and updates
4.Maintain integrity with and security over the database

The three principle components of a DBMS :
1.Query processor: The query processor transforms user queries into a series of low level instructions.This transforms the user queries into a series of low level instructions.This reads the online user’s query and translates it into an efficient series of operations in a form capable of being sent to the run time data manager for execution. 2.Run Time Database Manager
Run time database manager is the central software component of the DBMS, which interfaces with user-submitted application programs and queries. Its function is to convert operations in user’s queries. It provides control to maintain the consistency, integrity and security of the data. Sometimes referred to as the database control system, this is the central software component of the DBMS that interfaces with user-submitted application programs and queries, and handles database access at run time.

3. Data Manager
The data manager is responsible for the actual handling of data in the database.
Also called the cache manger, this is responsible for handling of data in the database, providing a recovery to the system that allows it to recover the data after a failure.It provides recovery to the system which that system should be able to recover the data after some failure
