Discuss an example of a work-related project that is able to be broken down into structure, tasks, subtasks, and work packages, and why project management in the form of a CPM/PERT chart would be cost effective.

Solution

I work on a construction company and we use CPM/PERT chart on our projects because it is critical to know the length of the project and also because most of the activities are connected and some of them can no happen until the previous one is completed it.

This is an example of how it looks like

Activity, Description, Time (days)

A Construction Zone 2

B Connected light on urbanization 1.5

C Building blocks of houses 1

D Connected Electrical in dwellings 0.5

E Paved lanes 5

F Paved sidewalks 4

G Construction of the pool 1.5

H jobs in auxiliary services of urbanization 0.5

I work on the internal development 6

J Rush gas in houses 4

K Mains electricity in houses 2

L carpentry households 3

M Control and verification 5

And this is how each activity connects:

Activity, Days, Precedent

A 2 --

B 1,5 A

C 1 A

D 0,5 B

E 5 D

F 4 E

G 1,5 A

H 0,5 G

I 6 H, F

J 4 C

K 2 J

L 3 K

M 5 end

This is cost efficient because when time passes and we see any delay we know exactly how much money it will cost to the company and what kind of decision we need to make that will have the lowest cost
