Identify a decision you have made that had important unexpected consequences. Were the consequences good, bad or both? Should you, and could you, have done anything differently in making the decision?
Note: Decisions are made daily in both our personal lives and the business world. As managers every decision we make affects either people or expenditures of resources. In this example, either your personal decision or a business decision is acceptable for illustration.
Solution
Recently I visited to my union representative to discuss the duties which are associated with my job which are recently changed but there were no changes in my job descriptions. My serious manager was motivating and supporting me for a promotion but the top management did not support this idea and they refused to even entertain the idea of a desk audit. From last five years ever since I joined my present organization, I have been handling number of additional responsibilities and management promised me to take care of my compensations and other benefits.
I faced a lot of difficulties in interacting with the union as I was having a feeling of betraying my leadership. In fact my conscious was also asking me to be happy in whatever I got from my current position and perform good job. In this mental struggle, it took me four years to take any initiative. I don’t know if I should have done anything differently because the investigation is still being done.
