Let\'s hear about your experiences in selling interactions - either as a sales person or as a customer. Provide an example of a situation you\'ve been in, and identify the characteristics that fit with either \"old selling\" or \"new selling\". For example have you ever bought a vehicle and felt disadvantaged by the way the sales person tried to manipulate you into buying something that wasn\'t right for you? Or if you have been a sales person, did you adopt any of the \"new ABCs\" of selling in a sincere effort to help a customer meet their needs?

Solution

My experience within selling interactions have never been good for me, I was the customer.

I believe these examples I am going to share would go within the \"old selling\" category. Within the past two years I have boughten two trucks, both from different dealers. The first truck I purchased in Tyngsboro, the guy wasn\'t too pushy, he definitely knew I wasn\'t sure of what I wanted so he was pushing a certain truck on me, I took it for a test drive brought it back and he began speaking to me again, speaking highly of the truck and everything it had to offer, then thats when he said, it was two wheel drive. He made it seem like it was no big deal compared to everything else the truck had.He wanted to get that two wheel drive truck off the lot, me being only 18 at the time, was easy to convince.

I kept that truck for about 3 months until I couldn\'t deal with the two wheel drive anymore (it was winter time) - that\'s when I went to another dealership in Nashua, they were even worse on pushing trucks on me. Low balling me on my truck I wanted to trade in and High balling me on a newer vehicle. They were good at convincing though, they had a good clause, my truck was only two wheel drive and we live in new england, nobody wants a two wheel drive truck and I needed a four wheel drive truck. I test drove a few different trucks, after trying to negotiate they would barely budge on the price, wouldn\'t throw in any accessories. I didn\'t sign any forms and I made my dad come down with me a few days later, just by speaking to him, an older man who knew what he was dealing with rather than a 19 year old girl who knew nothing, he got the price down and got him to throw in the extra stuff I asked for prior. They definitely try and take advantage of younger people who aren\'t as knowledgeable as others.

Therefore, both dealerships were pushy and tried to take advantage of me. The first place definitely did on the price, I should have taken my dad there with me too before purchasing like I did the second place.
