Write the equation of a line that passes through the point 2

Write the equation of a line that passes through the point (2, -5) and is perpendicular to the line y = 1/4x + 9 Write the equation in slope-intercept form Write the equation in the form Ax + By = C. where A, B and C are integers and A > 0. The equation of a line that passes through the point (2, -5) and is perpendicular to the line y = 1/4x + 9 is

Solution

Linel perpendicular to y = x/4 +9

slope of the given line = 1/4

So, slope of line to be detrmined = -4

y = mx +c ; y = -4x +c

Line passes through (2 , -5)

So, -5 = -8 +c ; c= 3

y = -4x +3   (slope intercept form)

y +4x = 3   ( Ax +By = C form)
