Question about gas-filled detector:
Why do we allow the gas to flow (as opposed to filling the chamber and shutting off the gas or using a sealed detector)?
Solution
Sealed counters are often having a limited lifetime because of microscopic cracks in the counter. So Instead of sealed counters, if we use continuous flow counters, the gas is circulated and purified to remove impurities or the chamber is continuously vented. This will increase the efficiency as well as life time of the detector.
