Oleg is running around a circular track He runs at 3 meters
Oleg is running around a circular track. He runs at 3 meters per second and it takes him 73 seconds to complete each lap of the track. He starts running from the northermost point of the track, and runs clockwise for 5 minutes. When he stops, how far (in a straight line) from the westernmost point of the track is he?
Could explain why each step of the solution is necessary as you go? That would be much appreciated,
 Thank You
Solution
Velocity = 3 m/s
 73 seconds to complete the lap
The entire lap is 3*73 = 219 meters
5 minutes = 5*60 = 300 seconds
73*4 = 292 seconds, within which he completes 4 laps and reaches back to the northernmost part
Now, in 8 seconds, he travels 3*8 = 24 meters.
Now, that, as an angle is ....
 24/219 * 360 = 39.452 degrees from the northern direction
219 = circumference
 219 = 2pi*r
 r = 34.8549 meters
This point therefore, has an x-value of 34.8549*sin(39.452)
 = 22.14790 meters
So, from the westernmost point, he is
 22.14790 + 34.8549
 57
So, 57 meters from the westernmost point
