Would you expect the hydrogens of the methyl group the 2 car

Would you expect the hydrogens of the methyl group (the #2 carbon) of fluoroethane to be upfield or downfield compared to the same signal in 1,1-difluoroethane? Explain your answer.

Solution

It is Upfield at approximately 1.25 ppm in fluoroethane

While in 1,1-difluoroethane it is at 1.65 ppm, slightly more than the former due to two EWGS of F atoms.

Would you expect the hydrogens of the methyl group (the #2 carbon) of fluoroethane to be upfield or downfield compared to the same signal in 1,1-difluoroethane?
