Describe any two JIT/ Lean elements or concepts that you have learned that you think will be useful for you. Project Management. The JIT concept was described by Henry Ford.

JIT means Just In Time.

In a JIT system, the components of a product undergoing a manufacturing operation arrive just at the time when they have to be fed into the production process by a worker at the work center.

Lean Manufacturing is a philosophy that aims to maintain smooth production flow by continuously identifying and eliminating waste resulting in increasing value of activities in the production process.

There are various elements of Lean Manufacturing such as:

Kanban

TPM

Pokayoke

Kaizen

5 S\'s

FIFO

Quality Circles

Employee Involvement / Development

Cellular Layout

and so on..

The elements useful for me will be :-

1) Kaizen :-

Kaizen is the art of Continuous Improvement.

Kaizen’s primary objective is to remove all inefficiencies and waste, and strive towards perfection. Personal perfection sounds a little extreme, however, living with a continuous self-improvement mindset will create the best you that you can be.

Now, how you do this is by keeping an active eye for improvement opportunities using the following steps:

By using the 6 steps defined and making small changes we can bypass the brain’s fear-based, programmed resistance to change. Kaizen is a lifestyle choice that challenges us to live a life of continuous improvement, growth, and to eliminate waste (or baggage). Accept your personal situation and don’t blame or criticize yourself; focus on the now and work your way forward.

Thus, Kaizen will be useful for me.

2) Pokayoke :-

Pokayoke is a Japanese term that means \"mistake-proofing\".

It is a Japanese approach to \'mistake proofing\' in all aspects of manufacturing, customer service, procurement, etc. It employs visual signals that make mistakes clearly stand out from the rest, or devices that stop an assembly line or process if a part or step is missed.

Poka-yoke is based on prediction and detection. That is, recognizing that a defect is about to occur or recognizing that a defect has occurred.
Mistake-proofing poka yoke devices surround people, preventing costly problems in their everyday lives.
