10. (8 pts.) A club elects a president, vice-president, and secretary. How many sets of officers are possible if there are 12 members and any member can be elected to each position? No person can hold more than one office

Solution

Total number of persons = 12
So A president can be selected in 12 ways.
After a president has been selected , we select a vice president in 11 ways as there are 11 persons left to chose from.
And finally we select a secretary from the remaining 10 persons in 10 ways.

Hence the number of sets possible = 12 × 11 × 10 = 1320
Answer: No of sets = 1320
