A car is approaching a freeway exit at 100 km/h.

2. The next section is flat of radius of 100m

The road conditions are dry with a coefficient of static friction of 0.6.

(a) To safely exit the highway on the flat section the driver must be moving at no more than ______ m/s around the flat section.

(b) To safely move around the banked section the driver must be moving at no more than _______ m/s.

Solution

Here,

let the speed in the flat section is v

1)radius , r = 100 m

speed of car is v

v^2/r = us * g

v^2/100 = 0.6 * 9.8

v = 24.3 m/s

the speed can\'t be more than 24.3 m/s at the flat surafce.

2) at the banked surface

radius , r = 80 m

v^2/r = g * sin(theta) + us *g

v^2/80 = 9.8 * (sin(6 degree) + 0.6)

v = 23.5 m/s

the speed can\'t be more than 23.5 m/s at the banked surface

A car is approaching a freeway exit at 100 km/h. 2. The next section is flat of radius of 100m The road conditions are dry with a coefficient of static friction
