Given the importance of ensuring that the data is both accurate and current, who should be involved with PROVIDING INPUT to the HR team as they conduct the job evaluation? Be specific and name the types of positions.
Solution
The job evaluation is carried out to find the \'worth of a job\'. This is done by collecting different types of data using several techniques such as observation, interview, questionnaire, and job diary/ logs. The accuracy of the information depends on the source from which the data is collected and objectivity/ bias of the method of collection. The following three candidates are best suited for this purpose -
1. Trained Analyst - An analyst can be hired are included in the team who will work all along with the team for collecting and assimilating data. The benefit of having a trained analyst is the quality and objectivity of the data along with the consistency of reporting. The obvious disadvantage is the additional cost.
2. Supervisor of the incumbent - The supervisor is able to provide accurate information regarding the job and many hidden input and data can actually be available from him/ her regarding the job. However, the disadvantages are that he/ she will need the training to collect and present the information accurately and also he/ she may have severe time burdens.
3. The incumbent himself/ herself - The incumbent is the best candidate as far as the richness of the data/ information is concerned as he/ she will know everything about the job and its requirement. The collection process will also be very fast in this case. However, the consistency and standardization will be at risk.
