1 a Find the exact value of the expression tan 50 degrees t

1.

(a) Find the exact value of the expression. tan 50 degrees + tan 100 degrees / 1-tan 50 degrees tan 100 degrees

(b) Given tan(x) = 2/3, x in quadrant III, find the remaining five trigonometric functions. Show all work. How did you solve the problem?

Solution

(tan 50 + tan 100)/(1-tan 50 tan 100) = tan(50+100) = tan 150 =-1/sqrt3

b. tan x=2/3

opposite=2 and adjacent=3

hypotenuse=sqrt(4+9)=sqrt13

sin theta=opposite/hypotenuse=-2/sqrt13

cos theta=adjacent/hypotenuse=-3/sqrt13

cot theta=1/tan theta=3/2

csc theta=1/sin theta=-sqrt13 /2

sec theta=1/cos theta=-sqrt13/3
