An object is placed 965 cm from a glass lens n 151 with one

An object is placed 96.5 cm from a glass lens (n = 1.51) with one concave surface of radius 23.5 cm and one convex surface of radius 18.9 cm .

Part A Determine the final image distance from the center of lens. Follow the sign conventions. Express your answer to two significant figures and include the appropriate units.

Part B What is the magnification? Follow the sign conventions. Express your answer using two significant figures.

Solution

Using Lens maker formula:

1/f = (n -1)(1/R1 - 1/R2)

1/f = (1.51 - 1) [ 1/(-23.5) - 1/(-18.9)]

f = 49.24 cm

A. applying lens equation,

1/f = 1/do + 1/di

1/49.24 = 1/96.5 + 1/di

di = 100.55 cm ............from lens.

B. m = - di/do = -100.55 / 96.5 = - 1.04

Using Lens maker formula:

1/f = (n -1)(1/R1 - 1/R2)

1/f = (1.51 - 1) [ 1/(-23.5) - 1/(-18.9)]

f = 49.24 cm

A. applying lens equation,

1/f = 1/do + 1/di

1/49.24 = 1/96.5 + 1/di

di = 100.55 cm ............from lens.

B. m = - di/do = -100.55 / 96.5 = - 1.04
