Ans - (1)Nowadays , mathematical modesl are not more widely used in aggregate planning because they are harly comprehended by the persons performing the aggregate planning activities. Mathematical modelas are very complex . The matematical models are purley based on the simplification of the original problem in order to establish computational tractability. Therefor, a lot of analytical maturity is required to assess the calculated solution and if necessary , modify it for feasibility.
(2) MRP affects just about every function within a firm. The main requirements to create an MRP include : a master production schedule , Inventory and purchase records , a bill of material, and lead time for each parts. These are the items which deal with management , operations , financing and scheduling. These different aspects of the firm are all affected in different ways. By giving access to plan the execution of production , MRP affects the management The master production schedule provides a schedule of what is to be done and when. The operations also affected in a similar way since they will be executing the schedule provided by the management. The listing of components and the quantity wanted to produce one item Or in other words bill of material will affect the Finance team . This is because in order to start productions, some itemas are required and to procure items, funds are required . Finally , scheduling will be affected in addition to manpower planning to work, scheduling the appropriate parts to arrive in time as required by the MPS to produce the product is important.
(3) We all know there is a difference between scheduling services and scheduling manufacturing. The production can only managed by services through staffing levels. The production of final product is proportional to the demand at that time. Forexample , In healthcare , scheduling must be used in order to meet the current demands for doctors , nurses, and other staff. During emergencies, the demand will increase requiring the hospital to provide more services. This type of event is very difficult to manage as proper resources may be not available due to various reasons such as labor strike , Govt strike etc.
(4) The main questions that can be answered by PERT / CPM scheduling techniques are :
a) Time reuired to complete the project ?
b) Start Time and Completion Time for individual activities?
c) What is the least expensive way to speed up a project to meet a targeted completion time?
d) What is the variability in the project completin date ?
e) Probability of completing a project within a given time frame ?
(5) Expert Systems plays an important role in maintenance systems. The main role of expert system is to scrutinize the current state of systems in a product and detect the problems if any there are. For the maintainer, the system does some of the basic diagnosis so that a lot of troubleshooting can be left behind. The maintainer can basically come to the product and pull up the expert system\'s diagnosis of what is wrong. This allows the maintainer get to tyhe point of impklementing the solution.
Also, expert systems can be developed to even predict upcoming events. The system will start to notice certain conditions that imply that a failure is impending but not currently occuring. This moves maintenance into a more preventive posture. Then as the systems improve and things are calculated out, predictive maintenance has tended to be the norm.
