Simplify the following expression for the given value of x A

Simplify the following expression for the given value of x. Assume the angle

theta

is acute.

Sqrt 49+xsqrd if x=7tantheta

Solution

we have given sqrt(49+x^2) if x=7tan(theta)

sqrt(49+x^2)=sqrt(49+49tan^2(theta))=7*sqrt(1+tan^2(theta)=7*sec(theta)

sqrt(49+x^2)=7*sec(theta)

Acute angle is 0 degrees < (theta)<90 degrees

so we assume theta=45 degrees

sqrt(49+x^2)=7*sec(theta)=7*sec(45)=7*sqrt(2)=9.899

sqrt(49+x^2)=7*sqrt(2) =9.899
