Why are ribosomes located in the ER and in the cytoplasm?

What is the difference in the enviornments between these 2 organelles that accounts for the different function of ribosomes in these organelles?

Solution

Free ribosomes are located in the cytoplasm where as bound ribosomes are present on the endoplasmic reticulum. Free ribosomes are not attached to any other organelle but then a group to form polysomes these ribosomes freely float in the cytoplasm. They i produce proteins and enzymes which are used for the metabolism. Free ribosomes are responsible for manufacturing proteins that will function as soluble proteins within the cytoplasm form structural elements including cytoskeleton

Boundary ribosomes are present on the surface of Endoplasmic reticulum which are called rough endoplasmic reticulum is ribosomes cannot move freely. They produce proteins that are required for specific function they also produce polypeptide hormones surface receptors and cell signalling proteins are also produced and the produced proteins are transported out of the cell. Bound ribosomes make the proteins which are incorporated into membranes are packaged for storage are exported out of the cell.
