Julius Plucker was a 19^th century German mathematician and physicist. He made large contributions in the area of analytical geometry. Plucker’s equations relate to the relationships between the number of singularities of plane algebraic curves. He developed the principle of duality in projective geometry, which states that if a theorem is true, then its dual theorem, obtained by switching dual elements (lines and points) and their corresponding statements, is also true.

Plucker was also an experimental physicist who made pioneering contributions in the study of magnetic deflection of cathode rays. His investigations in this area led eventually to the discovery of the electron..
