What takt time would match capacity and demand if demand is 120 units a day, there are two shifts of 480 minutes each, and workers are given three half-hour breaks during each shifts, one of which is for lunch or diner?
Solution
Daily demand =120
Breaks in each 8 hour shift
3 half hour breaks, i.e 90 minutes
So net operating time in a shift = 8 *60 - 90 = 390 minutes
That is,Net operating time in a day (OT) = 780 minutes ( 390 minutes in a shift)
Cusomer reuirement is (CR) = 120 units a day
Takt time = (Net operating time / Customer requiremnets)
To match capacity and demand,
120 units to be produced in the net availble operating time of 780 minutes
For producing one unit, the time required is = 780/120 = 6.5 minutes
Takt time = 6.5 minutes
