A +50 C point charge is placed 34 cm from an identical +50 C charge. How much work would be required for an external force to move a +0.60 C test charge from a point midway between them to a point 10 cm closer to either of the charges? Express your answer using two significant figures.

Solution

here,

charge ,q = 50 uC

q1= 0.60 uC

for the work required to move the charg e

W = change in potential * q1

W = (final potential - initial potential) * q1

W = 9 *10^9 * 50 * 10^-6 * ((1/(0.34/2 - 0.10) + 1/(0.34/2 + 10)) - 2/(0.34/2)) * 0.60 *10^-6

W = 0.71 J

the work required to move the charge is 0.71 J
