Often, students enter school with delays of which parents were not aware. What resources would you offer a family when they are first discovering their child may have a disability? How can you support them, and help their child get the appropriate referrals, services and supports?

A delays in development occurs when a child\'s is developing slower in comparison to children of the same age, however is following the typical development pattern. It is important to recognize the warning signs of a delay. There is certain communication milestones that children are expected to reach by specific ages, and a child who has missed one or more of such milestones may require extra help to catch. The families can find informational and emotional support through connecting with and learning from other parents who have children with disabilities, through organizations that serve families of child with disabilities, and through several other avenues in their local community
Parents, society and school involvement can be very helpful to modify the early childhood environment to all children. The strategies, referrals, services and supports to help a child with delays in development are as follows:
