Using an Internet search engine, search for “strategic alliance,” and identify three recently formed alliances. For each alliance, identify whether the companies’ other products are generally competitors or complementary products. What are the goals of the alliance? What brought them together? Discuss whether you think a strategic alliance is an effective way for these organizations to meet their goals.

Starbucks have made several strategic alliance since they started operations, most of them are complementary products, for example when they joined with PepsiCo to bottle distribute the coffee based drink, this is one of the most popular beverages and was the result of an strategic alliance

Apple has partner with Clearwell to develop a discovery platform for iPad. This is another example of successful complementary products because legal entities will be able to use the platform as long as they use an iPad

Lilly partners with the Belgium-based company Galapagos to develop treatments for osteoporosis. Eli Lilly has been forming strategic alliance since the early days it started operating, the result of this alliances are discoveries on the medical fields that allow people live longer and healthier.

Strategic alliance are a great way to meet common goals because you are able to merge the knowledge of 2 companies that are efficient at what they do and combining these elements results on great products or services. It is also a good way to save money and make money because it would be too expensive for a company to this on their own, even though most of the companies that I provided examples could do it, they wouldn’t be as successful as they are because the other company complemented them
