One person is selected at random from the group of 2500 in the table. Give your answer to 2 decimal places. a) What is the probability the person works in Farming? b) What is the probability the person is male given they work in Farming? c) Are being male and working in Farming independent? Explain.

Solution

(a)

total people=2500

farmer people= 62

so total farmimng probability is 62/2500=0.02

(b)

total males=1200

total males farming=47

total probability for males farming =47/1200=0.04(aprox)

(c)

No not all the males are working in are independent farmers as in the table we have a cobined column of farming ,forestry, fishing so the probability is not independent farmers.
