A spherical tank with diameter 10 feet is filled halfway wit

A spherical tank with diameter 10 feet is filled half-way with water. How much work is done emptying the tank from the top?

Solution

10 feet = 3.048 meter

Here Work Done = Change in Gravitational Potential Energy

Here Mass of water = (2/3)**(0.5*3.048)^3*1000

= 7413.333 Kg

Also Cnter of mass of the Hemisphere is (3/8)R

= (3/8)*(0.5*3.048)

= 0.5715 m from the Lower base

Final Center of mass from the Lower Base = (3.048 - 0.5715)

= 2.4765 m

Therefore

Wrok Done = mg(h2 - h1)

= 7413.333*9.8*(2.4765 - 0.5715)

= 138399.514 J
