Write an equation of a line in slopeintercept form ymx b as

Write an equation of a line in slope-intercept form, y=mx + b as follows.

#1 Let x = 4. Write down the coordinates of the x-intercept using this value for x. #2 Let y = 8. Write down the coordinates of the y-intercept using this value of y. Find the slope of your line using the x and y intercepts from #1 & #2.

Solution

x =4 ; x intercept ( 4 , 0)

y = 8 ; y intercept (0, 8)

slope = (8 -0)/( 0 -4) = -2

y = -2x +8   ( equation of line)
