A point charge q 430 C moves from A to B separated by a dis

A point charge q = +43.0 ?C moves from A to B separated by a distance d = 0.164 m in the presence of an external electric field E with arrow of magnitude 290 N/C directed toward the right as in the following figure.

(a) Find the electric force exerted on the charge. magnitude N direction

(b) Find the work done by the electric force. J

(c) Find the change in the electric potential energy of the charge. J

(d) Find the potential difference between A and B. VB - VA = V

Solution

Here ,

q = 43 uC

d = 0.164 m

Electric field , E = 290 N/C

a) electric force exerted on the charge = q * E

electric force exerted on the charge = 43 *10^-6 * 290 N

electric force exerted on the charge = 0.0125 N

b)

work done by the electric force = F * distance

work done by the electric force = 0.0125 * 0.164 J

work done by the electric force = 2.05 *10^-3 J

c)

change in potential energy = - work done

change in potential energy = -2.05 *10^-3 J

d)

change in potential = change in potential energy/charge

change in potential = (-2.05 *10^-3)/(43 *10^-6)

change in potential = - 47.7 v

A point charge q = +43.0 ?C moves from A to B separated by a distance d = 0.164 m in the presence of an external electric field E with arrow of magnitude 290 N/
