11. What are the composition, structure, and function of chromosomes?
Solution
Chromosomes are the vehicals for tranfer of genes from one generation to another generation. These are madeup with condensed chromatin, which is madeup with DNA, RNA and Histone proteins. The chromosomes contain centromere, where the two arms of the chromatids attached. The ends of the chromosomes possess Telomeres. Centromere is the site for the attachment of Spindle fibers and facilitates segregation during Anaphase of cell division. Where as Telomeres prevents progressive shortning of chromosomes and maintain integrity of the chromosomes.
