1) Explain the difference between HR and HRD.
2) Identify TWO organizations that use HRD as part of their competitive strategy?
3) Read the case in Chapter 3, \"Rick\'s New Job\" pages 86-88. Then answer questions 1 an 2 (only) on page 88.

Question Two - Explain Rosie\'s and Walters reactions to Ricks computer terms of resistance to change. How might Rick have used the concepts in this chapter to approach the computer situation so as to gain acceptance?

1. The task of human resources departments includes several functions and there are HR professionals with distinct CT during crisis. The HR functions are divided into two categories. This includes HR management and HRD.
HRM
The different types of tasks under HR or HRM include compensation, issues of payroll, management benefits and day to day relations of employee.
Human resources professionals are included with the issue of management and hiring/firing. They are described as administrative and management functions.
HRD
Human resource development is related to strategic thinking related to workforce. The training and productivity is gained with the needs of industrial psychology. The needs of the organization are the concern of the professionals in this case. It includes workforce need of the organization.
2. There are companies that use effective HRD as part of their effective competitive strategy. It their way of using positive recruitment and improve the company culture and use it to their optimum potential.
HRD is used successfully to understand and predict the performance of the employees. Companies like Google successfully utilize HRD to develop the skills of their present employees. There are effective training programs utilized for the purpose of effective development of the employees.
Employee training and consistent feedback is used by organizations like Accenture for improving the experience of the employees.
3. Rick got let go due to his ideas that could not be presented in an effective manner and in a way that did not threaten the managers. Only Val was informed regarding the reason behind the effective change but the other managers were not provided with any idea and they were left to assume on their own. It seemed to have a culture in the organization wherein the managers except Val were afraid of the change and did not want the change to take place.
Rosie &Walter had the fear of the unknown. It was fear of incompetence for Rosie. While Diane had the fear of losing influence. It would be necessary from a perspective of reinforcement that punishment would be to let go for Rick. This will ensure that such behavior will not occur in the future. He would also make the necessary changes based on his experience of punishment and learning the lesson.
The reaction of Rosie and Walter towards the computer of Rick was resistance to change. The requirement for understanding the new technology was not recognized by them and it\'s value.
