Solution
With the accession of Mikhail Gorbachev General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, everything that had been going on for the last 40 years , came to a screetching halt. He was a man of considerable action and resolute. He identified that increases in military power were useless for everyone.
Gorbachev’s introduced policies of openness, and economic restructuring.
Realizing that his country economy was on the brink of economic collapse he decided to form a frendlier relation with neighbouring countries leading to co-operation in international commerce. He also began to offer concessions to American negotiators and even announced a significant reduction in Soviet troop strength. He in short made sure that the cold war should come to an end
After the war ,Gorbachev pulled out his troops from afghanistan.he no longer intended to enforce the Brezhnev Doctrine that no satellite country in Eastern Europe would be allowed to defect from the Soviet sphere.Such declaration led to a democratic freedom movement in Romania. also the two germany\'s moved towards unification.
