A risk management plan must be detailed to the point that every aspect of the crisis is considered. Complete the following assignment: Suppose you own a small convenience market, about the size of a 7-11 or a Circle K, or any other comparable franchise outlet that you might be more familiar with given your location in the country. The child of a customer, left in a running vehicle, manages to shift the car into forward and it plows through the front of your store, sending debris and stock flying, and causing an indeterminate amount of damage to your facility. Your final assignment for this course is to prepare a disaster assessment and recovery plan for resuming business. You will want to include such information as:

Damage assessment; to the building, to people, to stock, to utilities.

Identify critical actions; for example, does anyone need emergency medical care? What do you do about perishables like frozen foods (if you have lost power)?

Repairs and recovery; including time frames and levels of business as a percentage of normal operations What might you change about the way you manage this business to reduce the impact of such an event in the future?

Be as complete and thorough in your analysis of the situation as you can.

The completed assignment should be at least 350 words.

Solution

Each and every business may go through an incident that can cause huge damage and the damage caused may affect the situation of the business largely. In this particular context we observe that my store is experiencing such an incident where a car accidentally hit the store front causing quite a damage including a casualty who was entering the shop. After a thorough assessment of the damage caused it is observed that the damage is not that small and will cost the business quite a lot because the store building has damaged a lot as it is part of a very old building therefore that needs to be repaired and compensated. As conveyed, a man was injured and has been taken to the nearest hospital for initial assessment, the condition is not that serious but any damage will worsen the situation. As the shop consists of various genre of goods and is like a one stop shop for daily needs the food items and perishable items are the worst to suffer because there is no way that can be saved.

The incident has not only caused damage of property but also forced the store to be closed because the store cannot operate in such a condition and it has to renovate in order to start doing business. This incident will also cause a negative feeling in the minds of the consumers because human mentality will bring this incident back to their mid every time they come to shop from the store. The store needs to plan an effective recovery plan because in order to do good business again it has to amend few facilities and also plan to fill up the loss and damage caused. Accidental insurance coverage will compensate a percentage of the damage, a police case needs to be filed and if the driver of the car is found guilty then even he may have to be paid a fine to me. If we consider this as an accident then the only way the driver can be blamed if he is found drunk or inaberrated condition.

The store needs to put up a notice for its customers that it will be closed for few days because of renovation and a tentative date should be mentioned on which it may start operations again. Going forward the store should adopt some measures so that such incidents are avoided in future. A barrier or railing should be there in front of the store which will resist the impact of the accident and the people walking will also be protected. Parking of vehicles should be restricted to a particular place only so that vehicles are not parked anywhere and the speed of the vehicles should be limited in such places so that the probability of accidents is decreased.
