Organizations use three types of control measures including input control, output control, and behavior control.
Behavior control: Prime objective of behavior control is to control the action of individuals that would help the organization in achieving its desired objective. Organizations can use different set of rules and regulation for standardizing the behavior of individuals working with the organization. Some examples of behavior control is setting dress code for employees, prohibiting smoking within the office premises, or limiting the time used by workers for using restrooms.
Output control: Output control focuses on controlling the outputs or end results obtained through a process. The outputs are set in terms of targets, performance measures, milestones, etc. Some examples of output controls include incentive plans for the salesperson, quality control measures for an operational unit, and reward programs for membership enrollment.
Input control: It includes the regulation of resources used within an organization. It focuses on the acquisition of resources and deciding their qualities including values, skills, ability, etc. Some examples of input control includes educational qualification of an individual, industry experience, technical skills, communication skills, etc.
All these control systems enable an organization to track the performance of each department and make necessary adjustments in them. They also help in effective execution of strategies developed by the organization.
