What are the three types of protein transport that exist in eukaryotic cells?

Solution

Transport of proteins in eukaryotes is done mainly by various organelles like Golgi apparatus, endoplasmic reticulum, and vacuoles.

1. Golgi apparatus - through vesicles along the secretory pathway vesicles bud carry proteins from Golgi to ER.

2.endoplasmic reticulum - Vesicles in the form of bud carries proteins from the endoplasmic reticulum to the Golgi apparatus.

3. By lysosomes - include transport of digestive enzymes and membrane proteins. Here, vesicles fuse with late lysosomes and then finally contents transferred to lysosomes.

Note : In transport between ER and Golgi, two coat proteins work i.e. COPI and COPII.

COPI coat protein transfers protein from cis-Golgi apparatus to ER and COPII coat protein transfers proteins from ER to Golgi apparatus.
