It is important for professionals to conduct themselves according to their discipline’s standards to promote the general good of the discipline. However, adherence to professional standards is not always enforceable. Provide an example that demonstrates this concept. What do think should be done to make the standard enforceable?
Solution
Answer:-
These standards can be described as the principles that should be followed in promoting fairness, good behavior, and trust in the workplace. Over the past few years, companies and firms have become increasingly aware of the need to promote these standards, as it can be crucial in increasing productivity and growth in a company(Versailles, 2013). However, these standards are not always enforceable.
One of the reasons they are not always enforceable is because they are defined vaguely in the workplace. There is no clear definition of these standards, and differ from one company to another. For this reason, it is not easily understood by the staff. Secondly, they are open to interpretation, as they can have more than one meaning. For instance, there is an ethical dilemma as to whether you should treat customers equally, or women and men should be treated with equality.
Now, to make these standards enforceable, it is important to define these standards and make them specific to various aspects. Through this, vagueness will be minimized, and the information will be easily understood. Secondly, it is imperative to print or write them down as rules and obligations of the staff, so that it acts as a reminder to the employees and other staff on the guiding behaviors and actions.
