Solution
The images are very faint. Hence the answers are on a best effort basis.
On multiplying both the sides of the 1st equation by 3 and adding the result to the 2nd equation, we get 12x -3y +x +3y = 12 -7 or, 13x = 5 so that x = 5/13. Now, on substituting this value of x in the 2nd equation, we get 5/13 +3y = -7 or, 3y = -7 -5/13 = -96/13 . Hence y = 1/3(-96/13) or, y = -32/13.
3.Let the prices of a tent, a sleeping bag and a camp stool be $ x, y and z respectively. Then,
x+5y +5z = 285…(1). Also, x = 6z…(2) and y = z +25…(3).
On substituting x = 6z and y = z+25 in the 1st equation, we get 6z +5(z+25) +5z = 285 or, 16z + 125 = 285 or, 16z = 285 -125 = 160. Therefore, z = 160/16 = 10. Then x = 6z = 6*10 = 60 and y = z +25 = 10 +25 = 35.
Thus, the price of a tent is $ 35, the price of a sleeping bag is $35 and the price of a camping stool is $ 10.
