Solve the following linear equation Write your answer either

Solve the following linear equation. Write your answer either as a whole number or a fraction using the fraction bar (/). Do NOT use decimal form!

a) 6+5(x1) = 3(12x)+7

b) 4(3x+1)=7(14x)12

Solution

a)

6 + 5 (x-1) = 3 ( 1- 2x ) + 7

6 + 5x - 5 = 3 - 6x + 7

1 + 5x = -6x + 10

5x + 6x = 10 - 1

11 x = 9

x = 9/11

b) 4 ( 3x + 1 ) = 7 ( 1 - 4x ) - 12

12x + 4 = 7 - 28x - 12

12x + 4 = -5 - 28x

12 x + 28x = - 5 - 4

40x = -9

x = -9/40
