How St. Luke’s could further enhance its wireless network by implementing VLANs.
Solution
VLANs are an effective mechanism of seggregating network traffic based on certain criterias. The traffic over an entire network can be categorized as following:
1. Server to server traffic (east west traffic)
2. Client server traffic (North South traffic)
Creating VLANs for each will restrict the traffics from mixing and improve the overall network performance and fault management.
VLANs can also be created to seggregate traffics of different departments, labs and hostels. Some VLANs can have more bandwidth compared to others. This helps to regulate usage and better control over the network.
