Where in the Oklahoma Boiler and Pressure Vessel Safety Act

Where in the Oklahoma Boiler and Pressure Vessel Safety Act are the air and ventilation requirements for a boiler room found? What is the minimum required safety valve relieving capacity in the following cases: Low pressure fire tube steam boiler, fired with natural gas and having a total heating surface of 450 square feet? Low pressure hot water heating boiler with a BTU output of 2, 500,000 BTU per hour? When a boiler is used to provide heated water in a closed heating system, when must the installed thermal expansion tank be constructed to ASME Section VIII? What is the minimum capacity of the non-pressurized expansion tank that is to be installed in a forced water heating system with a system volume of 500 gallons? The maximum pressure that a boiler or pressure vessel may be subjected to during a hydrostatic test shall not exceed? At a minimum, boilers, pressure vessels, and water heaters shall be operated and maintained in accordance with?|

Solution

Air and ventilation requirements - combustion air supply and ventilation of boiler room (a) A permanent source of combustion and ventilation air, as required by the National Fire Protection Association\'s National Fuel Gas Code, NFPA 54, latest revision, shall be provided for each boiler room to permit satisfactory combustion of the fuel as well as proper ventilation of the boiler room under normal operating conditions. (b) The total requirements of the burners for all fired boilers and pressure vessels, as well as any air required for the operation of other equipment located in the boiler room, including air compressors, clothes dryers, exhaust fans, water heaters, and central heating units must be used to determine the total area, in square feet, in inlet air opening or openings required for the boiler room or machinery room. (c) When mechanical ventilation is used, the supply of combustion and ventilation air to the boiler room and the firing device shall be interlocked with the fan so the firing device will not operate with the fan off. The velocity of the air through the ventilating fan shall not exceed 500 feet per minute and the total air delivered shall be equal to or greater than required by (a) of this Section. When a specially engineered system is to be used in supplying combustion and ventilation air to a boiler room or machinery room, such system shall be approved by the chief boiler inspector prior to its installation and use. (d) Existing installations that complied with previously accepted standards of the Oklahoma Boiler and Pressure Vessel Safety Act and Boiler and Pressure Vessel Rules are deemed to be satisfactory until such time that it becomes necessary to repair or replace such combustion air supply system or components. When repair and/or replacement is required, such repairs and/or installations shall be performed in accordance with the requirements for new installations.
