Problem: A Porsche challenges a Honda to a 400-m race. Because the Porsche\'s acceleration of 3.5m/s2 is larger than the Honda\'s 3.0m/s2, the Honda gets a 50-m head start. Both cars start accelerating at the same instant.

Who wins? Porsche or Honda

Here,

for the honda , as the distance to be travelled = 400 - 50 = 350 m

let the time taken is t1

Using second equation of motion

distance = 0.5 * a * t1^2

350 = 0.5 * 3 * t1^2

t1 = 15.3 s

Now , for the Porshe , let the time taken is t2

distance = 0.5 * a * t2^2

400 = 0.5 * 3.5 * t2^2

t2 = 15.11 s

as the time taken for porshe is less , Porshe will win the race
