If an error was made in graphically determining the equivale
If an error was made in graphically determining the equivalence point such that the volume of base was too high, what affect would this have on the reported Ka value and the initial molarity of the acid?
Solution
I think you are talking about pH Vs volume graph and you are adding acid solution to base solution. Then instead of sharp vertical line you will get incline line in which we have problem in getting equivalence point.
At equivalence point, We have moles of acid = moles of base
or MaVa= MbVb
Ma= molarity of acid, Va = volume of acid, Mb = molarity of base, Vb= volume of base
if we have higher Vb and Mb and Va are constant then Ma will be higher but
Ka will remain constant for a particular acid despite a change in concentration (all other conditions, such as temperature, held constant)
