Question 5 Consider the figure below which is similar to Fig

Question 5:

Consider the figure below (which is similar to Figure 9.3). A sender begins sending packetized audio periodically at t = 1.

The first packet arrives at thereceiver at t = 8.

What are the delays (from sender to receiver, ignoring any playout delays) of packets 2 through 8? Note that each vertical and horizontal line segment in the figure has a length of 1, 2, or 3 time units.
If audio playout begins as soon as the first packet arrives at the receiver at t = 8, which of the first eight packets sent will not arrive in time for playout?
If audio playout begins at t = 9, which of the first eight packets sent will not arrive in time for playout?
What is the minimum playout delay at the receiver that results in all of the first eight packets arriving in time for their playout?
Packets generated Packets received t T T T T T T T T T T T T Time

Solution

1)  What are the delays (from sender to receiver, ignoring any playout delays) of packets 2 through 8? Note that each vertical and horizontal line segment in the figure has a length of 1, 2, or 3 time units.

Answer :

The delay of 2 packet is 8 slots.

The delay of 3 packet is 8 slots.

The delay of 4 packet is 8 slots.

The delay of 5 packet is 10 slots.

The delay of 6 packet is 9 slots.

The delay of 7 packet is 8 slots.

The delay of 8 packet is 8 slots.

2) If audio playout begins as soon as the first packet arrives at the receiver at t = 8, which of the first eight packets sent will not arrive in time for playout?

Answer :

2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 Packets will not be acknowledged in time for their playout if playout begins at t = 8.

3) If audio playout begins at t = 9, which of the first eight packets sent will not arrive in time for playout?

Answer :

3, 5 and 6 Packets will not be acknowledged in time for their playout if playout begins at t=9.

4)

What is the minimum playout delay at the receiver that results in all of the first eight packets arriving in time for their playout?

Answer :

There is No packets will reach after their playout time if playout time begins at t=10
