Let \'x \' be the speed of the boat in still water and \' y \' be the distance travelled.

hence the 2 equations are 5 x +2 5 = y -------(1) ( reason in 5 hours the distance travelled by the boat is 5 ( x + 5) )

return journey 10 x - 50 = y ------( 2 ) ( against the current 10 (x --5 ))

equation 2 --1 : 5 x - 75 = 0 x = 15 the speed of the boat in still water
