a rectangular tank measures 800 meters long 400 meters wide

a rectangular tank measures 8.00 meters long, 4.00 meters wide, and 2.00 meters deep. the tank is partially filled with kerosene (density 820 kilograms per cubic meter); the depth of the kerosene is 1.50 meters. calculate:

a) the hydrostatic pressure on pressure on the bottom of the tank;
b) the hydrostatic force on the bottom of the tank;
c) the hydrostatic force on one end of the tank.
d) if the tank was filled with water instead of kerosene ,what would be the pressure on one end of the tank ?

Solution

a)P=gh=820*9.81*1.5 = 12066.3 N/m^2 =120.6 kpa

b)hydrostatic force =P*A=12066.3*8*4=386121.6 N =386.121KN

C)force on one end of tank =1/2 gh2 =0.5*9.81*52=112.625 N

d) for water =1

P= 1*9.81*1.5=14.715 N/m^2
