Evaluating a company or organization can provide a great overview of a company or organization’s overall performance. Fortune magazine has been created lists of the top companies for many years. Review the list of companies from this year (http://beta.fortune.com/fortune500) and review the list of companies from years past (http://archive.fortune.com/magazines/fortune/most-admired/2012/full_list/). Discuss your first impressions of the top 10 companies on the list. How has the list changed over the past five, ten and fifteen years? The first impression of the companies at the top of the list is that they all are US based multinational corporations. The Retail, Healthcare and pharmaceutical, Communication, Finance and Automobile segments in which these companies operate are either the rising sectors of economy or performing steadily. It also shows the trends of changes in the performance levels of the companies, where highest profits were recorded in Healthcare and Pharma sector companies, whereas the profits of Auto, Oil and Lubricant and Communication sectors showed significant decrease.

The trend shows significant shift over past five years with only one company common between 2012 and 2017 top performers. The 2012 list included Technology, Beverages, Retail and FMCG majors which shows surge in consumer goods and IT related businesses at that time. Little changes are observed in 2007 list where most players were same as in 2012. The shift from long standing sectors to the new ones, particularly the healthcare and pharma indicates inclusion of more and more players from these sectors whereas in sectors like communication, automobile and Finance, the growth rate is expected to be moderate.
